The iconic taekwondo practitioner returns! As if there was ever any doubt. Hwoarang’s gameplay trailer for Tekken 8 was released today, and aside from sporting some clearly new lines of dialogue and moves, he’s got a new outfit. The new look is a lot less biker boy and much more martial artist (but he’s still got the bike, mind you).

You might notice that he’s no longer wearing that eyepatch that became part of his main outfit in Tekken 7. He sustained an injury from a grenade blast during the story of Tekken 7 that caused him to wear the eyepatch, but its seems we’re past that now. Check out the trailer.

Platform fighter Rushdown Revolt will see a full 1.0 release on May 26 after several open and closed testing periods. The final version will be available on Steam with a hybrid Free-to-Play model. Offline access to the game will be completely free, with online play being a $24.99 optional purchase (yes, it’s rollback netcode).

Developer Vortex Games is expecting that future characters and cosmetics could still be added as paid DLC separate to the Online purchase. Additionally, any players who have paid for a copy of Rushdown Revolt in the past will be receiving the Online features for free at launch.

Rushdown Revolt will be featured as a main-stage game at Combo Breaker 2023 this year, so look out for possibly more information at or after the event.

Capcom has announced a developer Q&A stream with Game Directory Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto. In case you somehow missed it the Street Fighter 6 showcase went over a meaty 30 minutes of deep-dive into the game’s systems and features, but there’s still so much we don’t know yet!

You can submit your questions by replying to this thread on r/StreetFighter. The stream will go live on May 12 at 2 PM Pacific (5PM Eastern) on the CapcomFighters channel.

She’s back with an electrifying vengeance! KOFXIV newcomer Sylvie Paula Paula has returned to join The King of Fighters XV as part of Season 2 on May 16. Her new look sports an eye catching red lightning effect to most of her specials and all new super moves to boot. Plus she’s got her original outfit has a free bonus to go along with the striking new purple bat outfit!

Also, SNK has announced that 8 new “Destiny Battle” tracks will be added to play during certain character matchups! Keep your ears open for those when the character patch hits.

What is Luke’s background in private military contracting? Seems that Capcom wants to tell you all about it in the lead up to Street Fighter 6 with a new series of prequel comics in collaboration with UDON Entertainment and Capcom’s very own Bengus.

Issue #1 is available to read completely free on the official SF6 website, and is quite meaty with 49 pages and the promise of more issues by the labeling. Check it out!

The fan-game that keeps on giving has yet another veteran fighting game composer to add to its star studded credits. Available with patch 1.9.20 for TMNT x Justice League Turbo the “Osaka Suburbs” stage has been added with a plethora of references to Gōketsuji Ichizoku, the series by Atlus better known as “Power Instinct” in the west.

The music for this stage features new work by Toshikazu Tanaka. Tanaka’s discography starts with some of SNK’s early hits including Ikari and King of the Monsters to his most well-known work in Fatal Fury and Metal Slug, then moving to Atlus to define the sounds of Power Instinct.

TMNT x JL Turbo is available to play for free, and you can check out Matrimelee for an excellent entry in the series that was defined by Mr. Tanaka’s compositions.

Looks like NetherRealm is gearing up to show us what’s next! This morning series creator and notorious social media enjoyer Ed Boon tweeted out a trailer cycling through the many talented people that contribute to NetherRealm Studios in the making of Mortal Kombat, and it’s got a very expensive looking CGI teaser right at the end. It’s difficult to really get any meaning from the sequence aside from clearly having influence from the events of Mortal Kombat 11, but it’s the first we’ve seen of anything truly showing off a new game in the series.

If you somehow need more confirmation, the existence of the next Mortal Kombat was blurted out in an earnings call. As for timing, reporters with insider knowledge have suggested we can expect to see more this month.

Capcom is making it clear: the Street Fighter 6 Closed Beta Test “crack” can land you in trouble. It’s no secret that modders have bypassed Capcom’s measures to enforce a time limit on the PC Closed Beta Test of Street Fighter 6 from last year, and it’s lead to many people questioning if players covertly training using a modified copy of the game should be allowed to compete.

Today the Capcom Fighters Twitter account has put out a statement: “from this point forward, any player who is shown with clear evidence to be accessing the CBT [Closed Beta Test] in an unauthorized way may be deemed ineligible for the upcoming Capcom Pro Tour and Street Fighter League seasons.” Check out the tweet below.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is the sequel to the original that delivers on what the fans are looking for: rollback netcode, cross-play, and new content. Announced back in January with a planned release this year, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the promised online open beta due for May. Instead we can look forward to registration for a closed beta test to go along with a revised schedule for these tests, then an open beta to follow.

No word on if this will affect the overall release schedule. We’ll follow up whenever closed beta applications open up! GBVSR is coming to PS4, PS5 and Steam.

Good morning motherf——! Idol Showdown is a fighting game featuring the cast of VTuber agency Hololive, and it’s got a release date. Firstly, rounding out the 8 girl strong roster is the draconic Kiryu Coco. True to her chaotic energy she appears to be the most grappling-focused character on the roster.

Coco is an interesting choice as she’s the only talent on the roster that is currently retired from Hololive (a term called graduated if you’re not into this stuff). As a Coco fan myself I couldn’t be happier to see her continued appearances in high-quality fan games that Hololive fans have a knack for making.

Right after Joka succeeded in defending his crown in Tekken 7 at TheMIXUP this weekend, the latest challenger to Tekken 8 was revealed.

Can I just say I’m a big fan of all the matchup interactions they’re peppering into this game? This time her rivalry with Asuka Kazama plays out in dialogue. Check out Lili’s gameplay trailer in 4K below.

Leverless controllers may be all the rage, but it’s still pretty hard to get your hands on a pre-built model in Europe. Today we see a big step in changing that: Hit Box Arcade has announced a partnership with French arcade parts vendor SmallCab to distribute the classic Hit Box model in Europe.

The company is promising to get the Cross|Up and Smash Box models to European buyers through SmallCab in the future, and right now you can pick up a Hit Box for a limited time price of €265 until 4/24 when they bump up to €275. Buy it from SmallCab’s website.

The Playstation 4 will be receiving the only last-generation version of Street Fighter 6, so how does it stack up on the most popular tournament console in the FGC? Check out this recording of gameplay from the Street Fighter 6 Demo showing the game’s performance on PS4 Pro.

Input Delay Reduction was left OFF for this recording. Enabling this feature disables the game’s VSync and allows it to show “torn” frames in service of showing you the next frame sooner. In our testing we found it is constantly tearing and is not a very playable experience.

Unfortunately, the World Tour mode does not provide the same level of consistency as the core versus mode. I’m working on a more comprehensive breakdown. Check out a snippet of the gameplay in this tweet:

It’s going to be a big day for Street Fighter fans. At 3 PM PT/7 PM ET/10PM GMT the Street Fighter 6 Showcase presented by none other than Lil Wayne will go into detail on each of SF6’s three slices: The World Tour single-player content, the Battle Hub online service, and Fighting Ground core game modes.

Expected to run over 30 minutes, Capcom is hinting at “some big news at the end of the show.” A notable leak from a Japanese partnered content creator has suggested that you should get ready to hit the streets after the show. Pre-show begins 30 minutes before the showcase!
