Hit Box sends Cease & Desist to JunkFood Customs Arcades, JFCA responds with lawsuit
As the fighting game community grows so does the niche of building controllers to fill the gaps between ergonomics and accessibility where standard game console controllers fall short. Chief among the designs found in the hands of gamers are button-only designs that have been popularized through Hit Box LLC’s Hit Box controller. The iconic white rectangle has become popular enough to spawn several similar designs and the Hit Box company has noticed. This month a Cease & Desist notice was sent by Hit Box LLC to JunkFood Customs Arcades on an alleged patent infringement, and JFCA has responded with a lawsuit. Project L’s second trailer reminds us it’s early days at Riot Games
It’s safe to say people are excited about the prospect of a fighting game based on the vibrant cast of League of Legends and the extended universe of Runeterra. As I write this post the Twitter window in the corner of my eye reminds me that “Project L” is trending with over 15.5k tweets on the subject. Just the tweet with the most recent trailer has garnered 2.6 million views in less than 3 whole days. What the hype cycle is forgetting is that we’re not going to be seeing this game again for a long time and it could come out the other end of the development machine looking very different.
