The next entry in the Under Night In-Birth series may be fast approaching. South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) recently rated several titles among which an unannounced “Under Night In-Birth 2: Sistema Celes” has been spotted on social media. This is the first we’ve heard of any future content for Under Night In-Birth since the release of the 2020 revision “Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[clr]”.

With developer French Bread busy for the past few years creating and supporting Melty Blood: Type Lumina for publisher Delightworks, it was unclear when if ever the series would be revisited. On January 1st of this year French Bread character designer Seiichi Yoshihara commented on the series’ 10-year anniversary saying he “can’t go into too much detail right now.”

One of the more popular names in the anime FGC, Under Night In-Birth (or simply UNICLR) has been known for many things from its catchy soundtrack, to the beautiful sprite work, or the resource management focused gameplay. Perhaps one of the best known stories of all behind this series is the grassroots community growth in the 2010s that culminated in Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] joining the main-stage tournament lineup at Evo 2019.

The community that was stuck with it through the [cl-r] revision have awaited eagerly for news of an update to bring over the rollback netcode French Bread debuted with Type Lumina using the same engine, and with any luck they won’t have to wait much longer.

If you’d like to dip your toes in before we hear inevitable news of the sequel, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] is available right now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch. Long live the night.
