Summer Jam 2022 Preview

2022 marks the return of Big E’s array of regional and major fighting game labels including Summer Jam in New Jersey this coming weekend. Featuring a wide variety of modern tournament favorites and a few community twists let’s talk schedules and streams.

Summer Jam 2022 Official lineup

The official tournament lineup for Summer Jam 2022 is: Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, DNF Duel, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy Versus, Guilty Gear -Strive-, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat X, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Samurai Shodown, Soulcalibur VI, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter V, Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo, Tekken 7, The King of Fighters XV, Them’s Fightin’ Herds, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Windjammers 2.

Additionally, Summer Jam 2022 will host a 3v3 team tournament for Tekken 7, and 2v2 team tournaments for Guilty Gear -Strive-, Melty Blood Type Lumina & Street Fighter V on Friday, August 19th.

Summer Jam is a Dojo Prime event for Tekken World Tour

Summer Jam’s premiere Tekken 7 tournament will be qualified as a Dojo Prime event for Tekken World Tour 2022. This classification is wholly new to the 2022 run of TWT, awarded to “local events that have a large influence on their local communities.”

The primary distinction is that Dojo Prime events award a large amount of points to the regional leaderboard. Since the Tekken World Tour scores players based on their top 4 best placements in Dojo events, placing highly in a Dojo Prime event is a huge boon. With CEO and Evo 2022 behind us, this makes Dojo Prime events like Summer Jam the most valuable tour stops out there for North American Tekken competitors.

The Philly Special: Tekken Roulette

In keeping with Summer Jam’s dedication to serving Tekken competition a special side event hosted by Big E Gaming dubbed “Tekken Roulette” will go down on Saturday, August 20th. The rules are as follows:

Tekken Roulette is a special event tournament where the only games in rotation are Flagship Tekken Games.

GAMES

  • Tekken 5 (PS2)
  • Tekken 4 (PS2)
  • Tekken 6 (PS3)
  • Tekken 7 (PS4)
  • Tekken Tag 1 (PS2) OR (PS3)
  • Tekken Tag 2 PS3

All games will be played with the same rules as any other Tekken game.

Game Selection will be done by Random at the start of each set.

When two players are ready the next game will be selected for their match.

If that sounds like your kind of madness it will be streamed at 7 PM Eastern Time over on twitch.tv/bifuteki on Saturday August 20th.

Summer Jam 2022 Side Tournaments

Summer Jam will feature only two side tournaments in Gundam Wing: Endless Duel & Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. It is unknown if these games will be streamed, please drop us a tip if you know about any streaming plans for these tournaments.
