There’s been a lot of speculation about Netherrealm Studios’ next project. We now have konfirmation.

It started a little over 30 years ago.

Ed Boon and Netherrealm Studios are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Mortal Kombat on home consoles. Initially released for Arcade in 1992, “Mortal Monday” became a marketing legend when it was time to choose your destiny from home. Within those 30 years, those Arcade releases ceased and Mortal Kombat has been living on home consoles and PC for over 25 of those years since.

Within that span, there have been 11 mainline Mortal Kombat games. Those belong to the Thunder god Raiden era. This is a new era. The Fire god Liu Kang era.

It’s time.
