ICYMI: DNF Duel Developer Q&A discusses the game’s future updates

The DNF Duel official YouTube account recently posted a short Q&A session with game director Kodani Ryosuke about upcoming updates and support for the title.

It’s painfully obvious the “questions” are just a way to present information about the game’s future, but there is some info here: new characters are (still) coming, the voiceovers have been recorded, and a new mechanic that interacts with Conversion is coming. No time frame on any of this.

Check out the video:

Character Breakdown video for Sylvie Paula Paula in KOFXV released

Sylvie’s debut trailer for The King of Fighters XV revealed quite a few changes to her gameplay coming off of her debut in XIV, and now we have the details. Her new Thunderous Drip projectile attack reinforces her zoning gameplay, and Magne-Missile is so similar to Guilty Gear’s TOTSUGEKI that even Sylvie knows it.

Sylvie joins KOFXV later tonight in the West, and we’ll have patch notes out for it when they’re live. Check out the Character Breakdown:

Digital Foundry breaks down resolution & performance of the Street Fighter 6 demo on all platforms

The Street Fighter 6 demo is out in the wild now and being entirely free it’s easy to just pick it up and try it on your own console (or PC) and see how it performs relative to your expectations. But what is the best version? What does “input delay reduction” actually do? How do you fix the World Tour fights running at 30 FPS?

Digital Foundry’s Tom Morgan covers the resolution & performance measurements of every version of the Street Fighter 6 demo in a new video released today. It’s by far the most comprehensive look we’ll get on YouTube, so don’t miss it:

Hwoarang revealed for Tekken 8, gameplay trailer released

The iconic taekwondo practitioner returns! As if there was ever any doubt. Hwoarang’s gameplay trailer for Tekken 8 was released today, and aside from sporting some clearly new lines of dialogue and moves, he’s got a new outfit. The new look is a lot less biker boy and much more martial artist (but he’s still got the bike, mind you).

You might notice that he’s no longer wearing that eyepatch that became part of his main outfit in Tekken 7. He sustained an injury from a grenade blast during the story of Tekken 7 that caused him to wear the eyepatch, but its seems we’re past that now. Check out the trailer.

Rushdown Revolt version 1.0 arrives May 26

Platform fighter Rushdown Revolt will see a full 1.0 release on May 26 after several open and closed testing periods. The final version will be available on Steam with a hybrid Free-to-Play model. Offline access to the game will be completely free, with online play being a $24.99 optional purchase (yes, it’s rollback netcode).

Developer Vortex Games is expecting that future characters and cosmetics could still be added as paid DLC separate to the Online purchase. Additionally, any players who have paid for a copy of Rushdown Revolt in the past will be receiving the Online features for free at launch.

Rushdown Revolt will be featured as a main-stage game at Combo Breaker 2023 this year, so look out for possibly more information at or after the event.

Newly translated Dengeki scans show the first Guilty Gear that never was

A fighting game for the PlayStation with a one-hit kill system!! This is the promise made to readers of Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki back in October of 1995 with the first character art and biographies of Guilty Gear. Community translator Sol Radguy has recently published a translation of what is likely the first ever preview of Guilty Gear, showing some stark differences from what would later be known as Guilty Gear The Missing Link when it hit the PlayStation in 1998.

This depiction of the cast is both familiar and bizarrely different, juxtaposing the hand-drawn artwork associated with Guilty Gear’s aesthetics prior to Xrd with CG renders that I can only assume were in style at the time. It’s about 8 pages long, and you can read it on the Internet Archive right now. There’s also a later preview from 1996 with screenshots of a prototype build!
